Nestled along the Tennessee River is a gem of beauty and entertainment called the city of Chattanooga. Chattanooga holds many sights and sounds unique to the area, which are fun for school groups, families, or even individuals who wish to partake in all that the city has to offer. Take a virtual journey with us as we highlight some of the best of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Upon entering the city one of the first noticeable sights is the Tennessee Aquarium, the number one aquarium in the country for customer satisfaction. The aquarium has many things to explore including various natural habitats filled with animal and plant life. The aquarium is not only home to fish, but also penguins, river otters, butterflies, and more! You can explore the two state-of-the-art buildings which house the Ocean Journey or the River Journey, then stop by the IMAX theater to catch a 3D movie! Following your visit to the aquarium, we will depart for dinner.
After dinner, we will meet our guide for a chilling walking ghost tour of the city. The ghost tour will cover many different parts of the city including an inside tour of the Read House, the famous Chattanooga Choo Choo, and many other haunted locations. Once we have had our fill of spooks, we will head to the hotel for a good night’s sleep, hopefully without any ghostly visitors. We will be spending our evening relaxing at the newly renovated Best Western Plus on Lookout Mountain.
After a continental breakfast at the hotel, we will spend a day exploring the natural beauty of Chattanooga. Our first stop will be a visit to Rock City Gardens.Rock City boasts of “massive ancient rock formations, gardens with over 400 plant species” and beautiful panoramic views. After encountering the breathless views of Rock City, we will eat a delicious catered lunch at the Big Rock Grill Pavilion before departing for our next destination, Ruby Falls.
Ruby Falls is hidden deep within the heart of Lookout Mountain. “Located over 1120 feet beneath the surface, Ruby Falls is the nation’s largest and deepest waterfall open to the public. Hundreds of gallons of water rush over by the minute and amaze visitors.”This remarkable underground waterfall is truly an amazing natural wonder. Once we have spent some time here, we will depart and travel back down the mountain to the Chattanooga Zoo.
The Chattanooga Zoo hosts a wide variety of animals from all over the globe. You can explore six different habitats including the Gombe Forest, the Corcovado Jungle, and the Himalayan Passage. You will see animals ranging from common farm animals such as horses and goats all the way to exotic cats, monkeys, birds, and reptiles of all kinds. The Zoo offers an incredible array of species to discover.
After a fun-filled day of discovery, it is time to embark on a relaxing dinner cruise along the Tennessee River. We will step aboard the Southern Belle Riverboat and enjoy an evening filled with fun, food, and fellowship. While on the riverboat, we will take in the sights and sounds of the Tennessee River and watch as the city of Chattanooga passes lazily by. Once we dock again at Pier 2, we will return to the hotel for a well-deserved rest until morning.
In the morning we will depart from breakfast to journey to the historic town of St. Elmo to board the Incline Railway. The Incline Railway is a one mile ride up a 72.7% grade to the top of Lookout Mountain. This railway has been in operation for more than 100 years, and it still delights and fascinates travelers today. The Incline Railway allows visitors to see the mountainside up close while enjoying the unique experience of being a passenger on a specially adapted railway car. Once the journey is completed, we will take some time to shop and eat lunch in St. Elmo before departing for the journey home.
