Fall In Michigan: Upper Peninsula

Featuring Mackinac Island

Day 1:

Get ready for seven days of fun and excitement as Steve Sulligan, the owner of Blue Ridge Tours, Inc., guides us to some of Michigan's most unique and pristine areas of the Upper Peninsula, (what locals refer to as the U.P.).  Today we will travel to northern Kentucky where we will visit the Creation Museum. This “state of the art” museum brings the pages and people of the Bible to life. Walk through the Garden of Eden, smell the fresh timber of Noah's Ark, and come face to face with a dinosaur. Not only will you be able to tour the museum, but we have reserved you a seat in the Stargazer's Planetarium.  Here you will have an opportunity to watch a special effects and motion show. Afterwards, enjoy gardens full of plants, trees, and many kinds of unique birds. This will truly be a memorable experience. Through this informative museum,  you will get to reflect on all God's work that he has provided for our lives.  We will over night in northern Kentucky.

Day 2:

After breakfast, we will continue our journey north ... traveling through Dayton, Ohio and Toledo, Ohio until we arrive in the Detroit area.  Our first stop will be at the world renown Henry Ford Museum. Let's step back in time and learn about the roots of America and the different lifestyles that developed over the years. We will have the opportunity to relive the “good ole days”, starting 30 years ago, when life was much simpler.  We will overnight for two nights in Detroit, Michigan.

Day 3:

Following breakfast, we will return to the Henry Ford Museum where we will visit the unique Greenfield Village. Here you will be reliving history by taking a stroll through the many buildings of “yesteryear”. Take a ride in a model T and visit Thomas Edison's laboratory.  After lunch we will meet our local step-on tour guide for an exciting tour of Detroit, Michigan and Motown.  We will overnight once more in Detroit, Michigan.

Day 4:

After breakfast, we will travel towards the U.P. of Michigan. We will arrive to the Upper Peninsula after we drive across the awe inspiring Mackinac Bridge. Our first stop will be in Sault Ste Maurie. This city is Michigan's most northern city located along the Canadian Border (No Passport Needed). Here we will aboard a boat for a fascinating excursion down the St. Mary's River.  The excursion will take us through the Soo Locks where, hopefully, we will have a chance to see one of the 1,000 ft. freighters traveling along side of us as they journey to the Great Lakes. After sailing along Lake Superior, we will return to the dock after passing through the Soo Locks once more.  We will have to evening free to shop or relax in Sault Ste Maurie, Michigan.

Day 5:

Get ready for a day of excitement as we prepare to travel to the famed Mackinac Island. Here there are no cars, trucks, or buses driving along the streets. You get to experience the tranquility of horse drawn carriages and the sounds of cargo freighters sailing by on Lake Huron.  We will sail across the lake on a large ferry and upon docking on the island, we will meet our local tour guide who will be waiting for us with a horse drawn carriage. By horse carriage, we will tour this beautiful island with a few photo stops. As life slows down, we will get to enjoy the peace and quiet of Mackinac Island.  Are you hungry? I hope so! We will be provided with an elaborate first class style service lunch that will await us at the famed Grand Hotel. Savor the many kinds of cheeses, meats, and seafood as you gaze out over Lake Huron. Make sure you save room for some dessert! There will be over 20 different kinds of pastries to choose from.  For the remainder of the day, feel free to walk along the waterfront stores and window shop for that perfect Mackinac Island gift. Also, take the time to sample some of Mackinac Island's famous fudge. If you would just like to relax, pull up a lounge chair overlooking the lake and take in the solitude of the island.

Day 6:

We must say goodbye to the island ... but don't worry ... more awaits us today! We will board our large ferry and return to the mainland where we will begin our journey to Michigan's Bavarian town of Frankenmuth. Here you will feast on an “all you can eat” lunch that is included at the renown Zehnder Restaurant. Our dinner will include chicken, vegetables, and saloon and European style desserts.  Next, we will visit the famous Bonner's Christmas Wonderland, the world's largest Christmas store. It is the story of having Christmas all year round! Bonner's Christmas Wonderland sells many kinds of ornaments, decorations, and anything Christmas related. It is said to have over 50,000 items in stock.  We will then travel to Toledo, Ohio located in northern Ohio. This will be our last night traveling on the road.

Day 7:

After a busy yet exciting week, we will all have a chance to rest on the bus as we travel back home to South Carolina. Our cameras will be full of many fun experiences and places that are not commonly visited.
